At an altitude of 4170 meters, the Sela past is located. It is a breathtaking taking place which is always covered with snow that offers a beautiful picturesque view. No entry fee is required you just need proper inner line permission is required to visit Sela pass because of a sensitive region. There is also a Sela Lake near Sela Pass which gets frozen during winters. You can witness this beautiful place while going on the way to Tawang city which is around 80 km from Sela pass.

 

The Tawang monastery gives the pictures. At a height of 3000 meters above sea level located in Cona in Tawang District of Arunachal Pradesh, it is recorded as the second largest ministry in the world. The monastery is known to be 400 years old. Between Himalayan ranges and offers A breathtaking view of the Tawang Chu Valley.

Inside the monastery, you will find a majestic statue of Lord Buddha which is 8 meters in height. The monastery is divided into 4 parts entrance and outer wall, the main building, the main temple, and the library. The inner walls of the monastery contain sketches and paintings of Bodhisattvas. One can get a valuable collection of old scriptures like kangyur and tengyur in the library of the monastery. Choksar, Losar, Ajilamu, and Torgya are some of the festivals celebrated in the Tawang monastery. Losar is the Tibetan new year celebration festival and people celebrate Choksar by carrying religious sculptures on their backs and walking around the farmland and praying for good yield. Torgya is celebrated to see protection from evil spirits and pray for prosperity and happiness. Visitors are allowed to enter the monastery between 7 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. 1 to 2 hours are enough to explore the monastery and there is no entry fee for visiting.

 

30 km North-East of Tawang, Madhuri lake is located at an altitude of 12000 feet ever sea level.  A perfect combination of the Rocky Mountains and the beautiful lake gives picturesque views. Many movies have been shot near Madhuri lake. The lake is also locally known as Sangetsar Lake. Only Indians are allowed to visit Madhuri Lake.  You can find the nearest accommodation in Tawang which is 30 km from the lake. Some of the hotels are Tenzin guest house, hotel Gayko Khang Zhang, and Dolma group of hotels.

 

With a height of about 100 meters, Nuranang falls offers a pristine experience. Nuranang River originates at Sela Pass. One can stay in nearby Tawang or Bomdila. You can visit the Hydel power plant at the base of Nuranang Falls for sightseeing. Many tribal handicrafts are also available in the market of Tawang and Bomdila. It is a perfect spot for collecting souvenirs. Some Arunachal cuisine like Dung PO, Kholam, Wungwut Ngam, momos, roasted pork, and pasa is available near the Nuranang falls. 

You can also try restaurants near Nuranang Falls like the dragon, Orange bar and restaurant, and cafe nirvana in Tawang City. You should have a permit from the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to visit the fall. You can easily obtain the government at the deputy residence commissioner government of Arunachal Pradesh, Parvati Nagar, Tezpur. 

 

Tawang welcomes summer from March to August. The average temperature during summer in Tawang ranges from 5 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 21 degrees Celsius. Because of the high altitude, Tawang feels very less heat. If you are planning your trip in summer, try not to miss the festival. Tawang welcomes Monsoon from July to September. The average temperature during these months ranges between 15 degrees Celsius to 20 degrees Celsius. Though Tawang receives a moderate amount of rainfall.

 

Tawang witnessed winter from October to February. The average temperature during winter in Tawang ranges from -11 degrees Celsius to 12 degrees Celsius. You can see snow all around. Winter is the perfect time in Tawang for outdoor adventure activities. If you are visiting command during winter make sure to participate in the hornbill festival which is held in December and celebrated with full joy dance, sports, food, art forms, and many more.
