It is one of the capitals of the Indian state of Sikkim. History of Gangtok:

Not much is known about the early history of Gangtok. The earliest records date from the construction of the hermetic Gangtok monastery in 1761. In 1840 made it a pilgrimage center. After the defeat of the Tibetans by the British, Gangtok became a major stopover in the trade between Tibet and British.

By Air: -
Book a flight to Bag Dogra airport. Gangtok is at a distance of 124kms from Bag Dogra airport
and can be reached in 2 hours via a shared cab of a private one.
By Train: -
The nearest railway station to Gangtok is New Jalpaiguri that is located at a distance of
148kms. From here, you can take a local bus or hire a taxi to Gangtok.
By Road: -
If you wish to self-drive, you can hire a cab and head to Gangtok on your own.
