The double-decker living root bridge in cherrapunji is a hidden bridge surrounded by the verdant forest of the wettest place in India. The bridges are made up of Indian rubber trees which is a major attraction of the place, but it is more famous because of their large size. The bridge is 3 km long and its height is 2400 feet. To visit the bridge one should take steps around 3500-3600. There is also a guest house available for tourists at the site of the bridge. It will take 4 to 6 hours to explore the entire place including hiking and trekking. There is no need to carry much in your backpacks, it will be difficult for the journey and shops are available for snacks and water. 


 

Mawlynnong, a small village won the title of the cleanest village in Asia. People prefer Mawlynnong village as god's garden. Mawlynnong village is situated around 90 km from Shillong in the east of the Khasi hills. The village offers great picturesque views of natural beauty with word and forest, crystal clear water, flowering orchids hanging from the trees, and extremely clean roads. The credit for the cleanliness of the village goes to the local people. No doubt they have contributed much to this improvement. One can see bamboo garbage bins at every corner of the village. 

 

The fourth highest waterfall in the world, Nohkalikai is approx 335 meters from a verdant cliff. The fall is surrounded by the evergreen rainforest of Khasi hill. One can go trekking, bird watching, or swimming near the waterfall. The fall provides an astonishing panorama view. Don't forget to carry your camera to capture beautiful and amazing moments. It is advised to carry a hat or apply sunscreen before visiting. There will be an entry fee of INR 10. And tourists are allowed to visit from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 

Mawsmai Cave offers you an amazing adventurous experience. The thing you have to do here is just to explore the mysterious Mawsmai cave. The Cave is 6 km away from cherrapunji. The cave is just 150 meters, and you can find other long caves compared to this one but Mawsmai cave offers you to explore underground life. It is advised to carry a torch which will help you when you get stuck in any darker corner of the cave. One is allowed to visit the cave between 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. there is an entry charge of INR 10 per person and if you want to carry a camera with you there will be an additional charge of INR 15. One can also visit to explore Mawsmai Falls, which is near the cave. It is one of the highest waterfalls in India with a height of 1035 feet.

 

One can also visit Krem Phyllut, which is located in the south of cherrapunji. The cave offers three different entrances and two separate river passages.

 

Dawki is a beautiful river that has crystal clear water. It is considered one of the most picture-perfect spots in Meghalaya. It is near the border towns of India and Bangladesh. During the spring month, the city organizes many boats riding competitions. Here you can shop for a variety of delicious oranges. 

 

 

Cherapunji welcomes summer from March and continues till May. the average temperature during this month varies between 13 ° Celsius and 23 ° Celsius. During summers also cherrapunji witness moderate rainfall. Between March and May people of cherrapunji celebrate The Shad Suk Mynsiem, which means dance of happy hearts. It is an annual dance festival. They also do a Thanksgiving dance and music festival in April. 

 

The city witnessed a monsoon from June to September. The highest temperature during these months rarely goes beyond 16 ° Celsius and the lowest is 12 ° Celsius. It will be difficult to explore many places like waterfalls and lakes because of landslides. 

 

Cherapunji feels winter from November to February. The temperature during these months varies between 15 ° Celsius and 5 ° celsius. In November people of cherrapunji celebrated the most colorful festival of Meghalaya, the Nongkrem dance. The festival is celebrated for 5 days to thank God for a good harvest and to pray for peace and prosperity in the community. Winter is considered the best time to visit cherrapunji.
