The city of Lakes


Udaipur is the perfect destination for oenophiles. Each visiting spot of Udaipur is surrounded by lakes, so it is called The City of Lakes. 

 

Situated near the banks of Lake Pichola, City Palace is considered the largest royal complex in Rajasthan. You can explore the palace as well as the museum inside it, which was earlier Zanana Mahal. One needs approx 3 hours to explore the entire palace. Tourists are allowed to visit between 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with an entry fee of INR 300 for adults and INR 100 for children below 18years) and for students, it is INR 100.

 

Don't forget to visit the lake after or before visiting the Palace. Both the spots are at the same place. Lake Pichola offers you a wide range of sightseeing and picturesque views.  

The entry is free for all visitors. But one needs to visit between 9:00 am to 6:00 pm to enjoy the boat ride. You can get tickets for the boat ride from City Palace. The cost varies from INR 400 to INR 600 for adults and for children it is INR 200. 

 

 

One can also visit Jag Mandir Palace also known as ‘The Lake Garden Palace’, situated on the southern island of Lake Pichola. The attraction of Jag Mandir palace is the eight life-sized elephants carved out of pure white marble that seems to guard the palace. You can also enjoy delicious food from 'Darikhana' which is currently located inside the Palace. One can also check out the museum and go through the history of the place, palace, and kingdom.

 

On the hilltop of Aravalli on Bandara Peak, Sajjangarh Palace also referred to as Monsoon Palace is located. The entire palace is surrounded by the Sajjangarh Wildlife sanctuary, which makes it different from the other palaces of Udaipur as well as from Rajasthan, where most of the palaces are situated in desert areas or lakes. One can enjoy Safari or trekking while going to the palace and there is a high chance to come across wild residents of the sanctuary. There is an entry fee of INR 10 for Indian tourists and INR 80 for foreign tourists. If anyone wishes to visit by any vehicle then it will cost INR 20 and INR 65 respectively. The palace opens from 8 AM to 6 PM every day.

 

There's a spot for people who love adventure. Located in the heart of the city, where most of the famous attractions like the City Palace and Lake Pichola are situated, Mansapurn Karni ropeway offers you the chance to enjoy the stunning sightseeing of sunset and lush green surroundings. There is a temple called Mansapurn Karni Mata temple and the ropeway helps you to visit the temple by crossing the hills. The charge of the ropeway for Indian adult tourists is INR 87 and for children ( height below 110 centimeters) is INR 43, whereas the charge for foreign adult tourists is INR 300 and for children INR 150. You are allowed to visit between 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.



 

Hathi Pol Bazar is a perfect place to collect souvenirs. The grand market offers you a wide range of branded and local items including traditional attire, handicrafts, accessories, vintage antique articles, home decor, and so on. The market is especially known for miniature Rajasthani paintings Pichwai Paintings and hard paintings on silks. If you are visiting the Market on Saturday make sure to visit before 2:00 pm because the market closes early on Sunday, and on another day of the week it opens from 09:30 AM to 09:30 PM.

 

September to March is considered the ideal month to visit Udaipur. The maximum temperature during these months doesn't exceed 30° Celsius and the minimum temperature falls is approx 12° Celsius. November to February is the peak season. During these months the annual Shilpgram Crafts Fair is also held.

Udaipur witnesses summer from March to June. The summer of Udaipur is quite extreme. The temperature during these months ranges between 40° Celsius to 45° Celsius. One can also participate in Udaipur's colorful Mewar festival.
