The Land of Golden Fort


One of the largest forts in India 'Sonar Quila or 'Golden fort', is located on the southern edge of Jaisalmer city. Talking about its area Jaisalmer fort is itself another city; it is considered a mini town with many houses, temples, shops, and restaurants also. One can enjoy boating and feeding the fish. If you visit in winter, you can witness birds migrating from the nearby Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. One can visit the lake anytime with no entry charges. But if you go with the plan of boat riding you need to visit between 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, with a boating charge of INR 10 for a raw boat, INR 50 for a paddleboat, and INR 100 for a Shikara ride. 1-2 hours are enough to explore the lake.

 

One can also visit Desert National Park to witness the kingdom of flora and fauna in the desert area. This park provides you the opportunity to observe the life of many wild animals such as desert fox, Bengal fox, chinkara, wolves, desert cat, and the Blackbuck. The Great Indian Bustard, which is considered the rarest species of bird, is found here. Apart from the living kingdom, visitors also get to see a collection of fossils. Fossils of 6 million old dinosaurs have also been found in the area. You can visit the park between 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The entry fee for Indian tourists is INR 50 whereas for foreign tourists it is INR 300. One can also take a jeep or camel tour of the park with an extra cost applied. 

 

An amazing destination to click memorable pictures and beautiful sightseeing, Bada Bagh is the right choice to visit. Bada Bagh consists of a series of cenotaphs set amidst a garden. The series of cenotaphs gives a stunning eye-catching view. Tourists are allowed to visit between 9:00 AM - and 6:00 PM, with an entry fee of INR 50 for Indian tourists and INR 100 for foreign tourists. There is an extra charge to carry a still camera or video camera of INR 100 and INR 150 respectively. It is advised to visit before sunset, to explore the garden. The sunset view from Bada Bagh is very picturesque, so it's better to visit early to have astonishing clicks. 

 

You can also enjoy delicious food and shop for souvenirs from the market situated near all the visiting spots. The most popular markets are Bhatia Bazaar known for silk and wooden souvenirs, Sonoran ka Bas known for gold jewelry, and Pansari Bazaar known for Rajasthani traditional handicrafts and puppets.

 

Jaisalmer witnesses winter from November to March, and these months are also considered the ideal period as well as the peak season to visit Jaisalmer. The maximum temperature during these months doesn't exceed 24° Celsius. 

Jaisalmer welcomes monsoon from July to September. The temperature during these months varies between 19° Celsius to 32° Celsius. It is also considered a good time for budget travelers. The worst months to visit Jaisalmer will be from April to June. During these months the temperature ranges from 39° Celsius to 50° Celsius, Which results in hot, dry, and harsh summers.
