Darjeeling to Pelling (Heart of Tea)


A drive of nearly 130 kilometers – 4 ½ - 5 hours drive from Darjeeling to Pelling. Pelling is situated at an altitude of 2072 meters / 6800 feet with spectacular and close-up views of Mt Khangchendzonga. You can take a bike and go out solo or with friends and have the best memories. 

The town is a little sparse which makes it a perfect getaway for those who just want to lose themselves in the quiet of nature. Its Many waterfalls and mountain views make up Pelling’s surroundings when you just get lost in nature and grounded by it. 

1. The most famous monument there is Sanghak Choeling Monastery near the Helipad and Pemayangtse Monastery which is the prettiest and will give you peace. There are a few guesthouses/hotels and hotel restaurants in the area but Hotel Kabir is the best there. The beauty of the place is beyond words...! You will feel calm seeing the chaos and feel at peace.

On a clear day you can get a clear view of the Himalayan range with the snow-capped Mount -Pandim-Kumbhakarna-Rathong-Khangchendzonga-Zopuno-Shimano-Nursing-Sinolchu, etc are breathtakingly beautiful; They are one of the exotic settlements with varieties of Rhododendron, Orchids, historical sites, short trek routes, and wildlife. You can ride a bike en route and see its mesmerizing views. You can have momos in between stalls and some tea points which offer maggie to rejuvenate and go on.

3. Two wonderful monasteries of Pemayangtse and Sangacholing stand at the opposite ends of the town  which are holy and  pretty  

4. Another monastery you can stroll to is Pemayangtse monastery, it is the oldest monastery here and houses priceless thanks, icons, Buddhist texts, paintings, and frescos. Built in the 18th century AD, this monastery follows the Nyingmapa section of Tibetan Buddhism-Evening free to roam around the small settlement. 

5. There are a lot of Tibetan markets to explore and also one can visit them and buy some tea; which is famous over there. 

6. Eating out in Pelling includes the savory local delights of momos and thukpas. Though there are not so many restaurants over there you can visit restaurants like Havmor, Big Bowl, hotel Kabur, etc which can offer their basic cuisine.
